12/02/09 Minutes

7: 05...starting to discuss our visit coming up at Watson's this Sunday. We will be bringing pre-baked cookies and helping the kids decorate them. We will have a Christmas movie playing in the background and possibly have someone reading a Christmas book in the corner to children who are interested. Saturday we will be making the cookies so that they are made and ready to decorate on Sunday. We are limited to an hour so we need our visit to be well structured and organized. Dues for the semester will be $10.00, please pay as soon as you can so that we have a little bit of starting money. This will at least help us to provide cookies, frosting, and decorations. We have also discussed doing a pizza party semi soon so that could help us put that on sooner than later. Our group is large and we want to start out with individual projects such as working with the McKinney after school word program. While gaining a relationship with Watson's we want to keep our visits out there to a group of about 5-7 people. There are only 15 children currently living out there and so we don't want to seem overwhelming. We will also be keeping our visits short, around an hour from set up to clean up. After Christmas break we will be able to be a lot more involved, the Watson's has a lot of support around Christmas and a lot of activities going on however after break it is really quiet around there. Our first international idea that someone brought up was the idea of adopting a village for short term and long term water purification. Beginning with raising funds for PUR water purifications packets for the short term. Then in the long term move towards building a clean water well for a village, in which we will adopt to help. McKinney has talked to us and asked us to help out on a book drive that they are going to be doing soon. This will allow our big group to work together and start helping out soon. They are looking for kindergarten through fifth grade books. We are thinking of different ways to pick up books like drop boxes on campus etc.We will be meeting with someone from McKinney soon so we will have more information hopefully next week.
