For those of you who missed the last meeting, we have just basically been brainstorming a lot of different ideas for things to get us started. We have all shown a lot of interest in working with children and so for our first few projects we have decided to work with both the Watson's Children Center and the McKinney school. * With the Watson's Orphanage, we have discussed doing a variety of different small projects with the children before Christmas. We aren't sure if they already have a tree that has been donated to them yet but if they don't we are going to try and get a tree donated for them. We have discussed going over there to help decorate the tree and maybe baking cookies, or just different fun little projects to get to know them and have some fun. * With the McKinney school, there is an after school tutoring program which is the WORD program. With this we have discussed making arrangements to start working with these homeless children after school with whatever homework or learning they may need extra help with. We are hoping that after some time we could all sort of pair up with an individual child and help them one-on-one weekly. In order to do further projects we need to start fund raising. We have come up with a few ideas for the spring that we will need to start soon if we decide to continue on with them. We have talked about a poker tournament, a hole in one contest and a benefit concert. All of these projects will take a lot of time and commitment from all of us however they all seem fun. With the concert we are hoping to work along side with KGBA, we need to be thinking of potential ways to put it on and keep in mind things such as the actual production and where we will find equipment etc.. for this to be possible. Wednesday a few of us will be meeting with Fran from the Watson's children center, hopefully Wednesday night we will have a good idea of when we can start!! See you all on Wednesday for the next meeting!
